About Us
Mount Desert Island & Ellsworth Housing Authorities
The Ellsworth and MDI Housing Authorities provide housing assistance and related services to individuals and families who face income or other life challenges. We provide the opportunity for them to become self-sufficient and economically independent. We believe everyone deserves a good home.
The first three housing authorities to be established on Mount Desert Island were Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor and Mount Desert, all on May 3, 1973. The Town of Tremont Housing Authority was established next on October 13, 1974 and the City of Ellsworth Housing Authority on September 13, 1983.
Our Services
Resident services are offered at each of our seven elderly and disabled housing complexes on Mount Desert Island and in Ellsworth. We take pride in providing services which in turn allow for easier independent living.

Nutrition Program for Healthy Aging

Healthy Life Cafe - Eastern Area Agency on Aging works with Mount Desert Island Housing Authority to bring Meals on Wheels to Mount Desert Island. Meals are made at our Malvern Belmont Campus in Bar Harbor and Island Connections volunteers deliver them across the Island.

Independent Housing with Services Program

MDI Housing Authority has a grant with Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Elder Services. A limited amount of residents may qualify for financial assistance in getting a full care plan of services. Please contact Allie Bodge for details.
